How do you encourage simplicity in parenting?

Every year Christmas makes me think a lot about how we are raising our daughter to live a simple and intentional life. This year we had our daughter sort all her toys into keep and “give to other boys and girls” piles and donated almost half of her toys, and had each set of grandparents keep a number of their presents at their houses.

What other ways are people trying to parent with more simplicity?

  1. Don’t give kids everything they want. They need to learn to appreciate what they have.
  2. Send them outside. Kids now are fixed to technology and need some more outdoor time.
  3. Make them clean up.

I’d answer… but I don’t want to steal my wife’s thunder!
